LOKOJA – Dr Tunde Arosanyin, National Financial Secretary, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), has challenged women to rise above family, religious and societal pressure to contribute to nation building.
Arosanyin gave the task in Lokoja on Friday at the inauguration of an agriculture-based Non-Governmental Organisation, Community Life and Sustainable Development Initiative, established by a retired educationist, Mrs Ebun Joel.
He noted that a typical African woman always had it tough combining career with her ascribed roles as a wife and mother, but said that with hard work, dedication and perseverance they could make a difference. He urged women in Kogi to take up the challenge.
Arosanyin, who was Chairman of the occasion, urged them to exploit their numerical superiority to aspire, contest and win top political positions to engender positive development and contribute to nation building.
He particularly commended Joel, who through thick and thin retired “gracefully” after 35 years of service to establish the organisation in the bid to contribute her quota to humanity.
Joel said she was driven by passion for community development, women and youth empowerment, adding that the initiative was aimed at holistic development of the communities.
She said the organisation would focus on agriculture, education and health, among others, to bridge identified social and economic gaps in the society, especially among women and youths. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
