Agency warns communities against defecating into water channel

OSOGBO – The Osun State Water and Environmental Sanitation Agency (RUWESA) has warned people in the rural communities against defecating into the water channel.
The agency’s Programme Manager, Alhaji Olaposi Adiatu, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo on Wednesday.

Adiatu said the agency had embarked on awareness programmes in the rural areas to educate the people on the danger of defecating in the water channel.

He said that people in the rural communities had been encouraged to dig latrine for defecation to prevent cholera outbreak.[eap_ad_2]

The programme manager said that the water channel, which people in a particular community defecate, might be the only source of water for another community.

According to him, this is why the agency is passionate about the fight against defecation into the water channel.

“Our agency is like a health institution but ours is preventive and that is why we have embarked on awareness campaign against defecation into water channel in the rural communities.
“The main reason of the awareness campaign is to tell the people the danger as well as implications of open defecation into water channel.

“The awareness is also to encourage them to dig latrines rather than defecate openly,’’ he said.

Adiatu said the agency would not relent in its effort in ensuring a clean and healthy environment. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
