Abuja – Force Headquarters (FHQ) football team has won the gold in female football event of the ongoing 11th Police Games in Abuja.
The match played on Friday at the National Stadium Abuja saw FHQ score twice against Zone 2 to confirm their dominance in the encounter.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kikelomo Ajayi, a former Super Falcons Captain, netted the first goal for FHQ in the 12 minute of the game after she converted a pullout from a teammate.
The score line was doubled 26 minutes later by Ayomide Ojo through a penalty kick after Zone 2 defender handled the ball in the penalty box.
Ajayi, who captained the FHQ ladies, commended her teammates for winning the female football gold.
“We were determined to win this event and we did it; my teammates proved themselves.
“I am the captain but he job was done by the entire team,’’ she said.
In the female third place match, Zone 9 defeated Zone 6 3-2 to win the bronze.
The male football event witnessed spectacular moments as Zone 3 thrashed FHQ 3-0 to win the male’s third place match.
The final of the male football event comes up on Saturday between Zone 1 and Zone 9 at 11.30 a.m.
The 11th biennial Police Games, which started on March 19, ends on Saturday at the National Stadium, Abuja. (NAN)
