Uyo – The Akwa Ibom Government says it will begin the second phase of National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) on March 19 to 22 March across the state.
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Dominic Ukpong, announced this in a statement made available to newsmen in Uyo on Friday.
He urged parents and care-givers to bring out their children and wards from 0-59 months of age for the second phase of the exercise.
Ukpong charged parents to allow visiting health workers, moving from house to house, to administer two drops of oral polio vaccine to children from 0-59 months of age irrespective of their immunisation status.
He explained that the children would be immunised against polio myelitis, measles, hepatitis, diphtheria, tetanus and yellow fever.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
According to him, the immunisation will be held in all health facilities and immunisation centres in the state.
“Immunisation is free, safe and has no adverse effect on the child. Rather, repeated dozes boost the child‘s immunity,’’ Ukpong said.
He, however, enjoined parents to avail themselves of the opportunity to bring their wards to be vaccinated in order to receive all the interventions available during the period. (NAN)
