Onitsha – The Ufuma community in Orumba-North Local Government Area of Anambra has appealed to Gov. Willie Obiano to provide social amenities for the people of the area.
A community leader and former chairman of Orumba-North, Chief Nestor Okoro, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Onitsha, Anambra on Tuesday.
Okoro, who expressed worries about the level of infrastructural decay in the community, alleged that Obiano had not done anything tangible for Ufuma since the inception of his administration.
The former council boss said that the community lacked basic amenities including access roads, health facilities and power supply, among others.
“The road passing through the traditional ruler’s palace as well as Ufuma campus of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko is in a very deplorable condition.
“We have been suffering from perpetual darkness for more than five years as a result of the absence of power supply in the area, aggravated by the fact that we have been cut off from the national grid,” he said.
He said that the health centres in Ufuma were ill-equipped and under-staffed.
“Doctors and nurses manning the health centres seldom come to work, which makes healthcare services inaccessible to the people at the grassroots,” he said.
He called on the state government to employ young doctors, nurses and other medical personnel with the zeal to work in the agrarian community made up of nine villages.
Okoro argued that the infrastructural development would go a long way to improve on the living conditions of the people. (NAN)
