The Anambra State Police Command has announced the successful neutralization of individuals suspected to be enforcing the IPOB sit-at-home order in the state. According to SP Tochukwuu Ikenga, the State Police Public Relations Officer, the operation took place on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, around 2 p.m. near the Oba flyover in Idemili South.
During the operation, law enforcement officers intercepted a group of four armed men on motorcycles. One suspect, believed to be affiliated with IPOB, was apprehended, while the other three managed to flee despite sustaining gunshot wounds. Among the items recovered were a locally made pistol, four expanded cartridges, two mobile phones, and incriminating documents suggesting disloyalty to the Nigerian government.
Investigations revealed that the armed individuals were planning to enforce an unlawful sit-at-home order on May 30, 2024. The police are currently in pursuit of the remaining suspects.
The Commissioner of Police has urged officers to maintain their efforts in combating criminal activities and preventing further disruptions in the state.
