MINNA – The All Progressives Congress in Niger on Friday declared Alhaji Abubakar Bello as its governorship candidate for the 2015 general elections.
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that Bello defeated two other aspirants to clinch the ticket.
At the end of the voting, Bello got 3, 829; Ibrahim Musa got 61 while Sani Aloma got 24 votes.
Niger Chairman, Governorship Primaries Election Committee, Mr Mathias Umeh who declared the result, said that the exercise was free, fair and devoid of rancour as witnessed in other places.
Alhaji Jibrin Imam, Niger APC Chairman, told NAN that all contestants would cooperate to see the victory of the party.
” We played the game like real democrats. Now that a candidate has emerged, all hands will be on deck to win the state.
” The state needs a real democratic party to deliver it from the clutches of economic saboteurs. We can do it with the support of our people.’’
In Jos, Mr Simon Lalong won the primary election to run for the gubernatorial seat of Plateau.
Lalong, who won the primaries with 2,222 votes, was declared winner by the Electoral Committee Chairman, Mr Sunny Moniedafe, on Friday in Jos.
The election was keenly contested by five aspirants.
They are Solomon Dalung who scored 293 votes; Prof Emmanuel Garba got 304 votes; Dr Elijah Miner with 50 votes and Mr V K Dagin, who scored zero vote.
The Electoral Committee Chairman said 2,960 delegates were accredited but only 2,909 voted with 40 votes invalid. (NAN)
