Armed assailants launched a brazen attack on a luxury bus at Oke Ado Junction, Ijebu-mushin, along the Ijebu-Ode-Benin Expressway, this past Saturday.
The passengers, en route to the southeast for Easter celebrations, were subjected to a harrowing ordeal as the criminals robbed them before setting the bus ablaze.
Confirming the incident, SP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, stated that the attack occurred without gunfire, with the perpetrators brandishing cutlasses. The targeted vehicle, a 59-seater luxury Mercedes Benz bus operated by Ifesinachi Transport Limited, fell victim to the assailants’ rampage.
In a distressing video shared on social media by Chude Nnamdi, affected passengers recounted their traumatic experience, describing how the bandits stripped them of their belongings and left them stranded after setting the bus on fire.
One passenger lamented, “Criminals attacked us in Ijebu Ode along Ore-Benin Expressway, robbing us of everything we had and leaving some of us injured. They locked us inside the bus and set it ablaze. Though we are grateful that there were no fatalities, we lost all our possessions and some sustained injuries, including children among us.”
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the security challenges faced by travelers on Nigerian highways, highlighting the need for urgent measures to ensure the safety of commuters.
