Abuja – Maj. -Gen. John Malu, the Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison on Tuesday assured that there would be adequate security at the newly inaugurated ultra modern mammy market at the Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.
It will be recalled that the old market in the cantonment was rocked by explosion in December, 2010, during the heat of the Boko Haram insurgency.
Speaking during the inauguration of the market, Malu said that this was to ensure safety in the new market.
“There is also a well-articulated plan for daily administration with particular emphasis on sanitation in the market.
“We have achieved a major feat with the completion of this market. However, the next acid test will be to maintain the market and sustain its operations,” he said.
According to Malu, the new market comprises 2,000 shops and 27 warehouses and a printing press.
“Mammy markets, as we all know, are important features in military cantonments and barracks. They easily afford troops and families the opportunity to purchase essential commodities without having to leave the cantonment or barracks.
“Mammy markets present handy goods, relaxation spots and in some instances outstanding shopping facilities to residents of military cantonments and barracks, including adjoining communities,” he said.
