Abuja (Sundiata Post) – President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Idris Abubakar to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of the recent killings in Benue State.
Buhari gave the order on Monday during a meeting with the Benue State leaders over the recent killings in the state. The President also assured that he will never protect criminals.
Sundiata Post recalls that the recent killing in Benue State by suspected Fulani Herdsmen has attracted public condemnation, with some demanding for the declaration of the group as a terrorist group.
Also, Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has turned down the request of the Federal Government to provide about 10,000 hectres of land for the establishment of cattlle colonies in the state.
The governor while turning down the request said the state could not spare 10,000 hectares the Federal Government.
Ortom disclosed these while speaking with State House correspondents at the end of the meeting that lasted about an hour.
He further informed that they also appealed to Buhari to cause the arrest of Miyetti Allah leaders who, he said, were still issuing threats of attacks.
Ortom said Mr. President assured them that there is no room for impunity and that he would ensure there is peace in Benue.
The governor also denied the allegations that he was arming militias. (Punch)
