BAUCHI- The Bauchi State Government says it has embarked on comprehensive campaigns on prevention, treatment and other related strategies to avert outbreak of gastroenteritis and safeguard public health.
The Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Monday.
Gastroenteritis is a short-term illness triggered by infection and inflammation of the digestive system, symptoms can include abdominal cramps, diarrhea and vomiting.
The disease is cause by viruses, bacteria, bacterial toxins, parasites, chemicals, drug, among others.
He said the Agency in collaboration with implementing partners held stakeholders’ engagement exercise, to map out strategies to stem spread of the disease.
“With the outbreak of gastroenteritis in neighbouring states, the agency and its implementing partners have developed plans and strategies to handle such diseases.
“We have enough consumables, drugs and also isolation centres are ready, but we do not had any outbreak in the state,’’ he said.
According to Mohammed, the Agency is conducting sensitisation activities under its health education programmes across health facilities and communities to create awareness on diseases and routine immunisation.
He said the government had approved N15 million to the Agency to enhance preparedness against gastroenteritis outbreak in the state. (NAN)
