Coach Pep Guardiola says he is pleasantly surprised by his Bayern Munich side after they went nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
Unbeaten Bayern, who defeated Augsburg 4-0 on Saturday, will be top going into the six-week break from 21 December.
“I’m surprised by the mentality of these players after two seasons where they’ve won everything,” he said.
“They’re in a great mental state playing every three days and winning, winning and winning. It’s fantastic.”
Bayern have only lost twice in the league since Guardiola took charge in the summer of 2013 – one of those defeats inflicted by Augsburg – and they won last season’s title in record time.
They have won two consecutive domestic doubles and the 2012-13 Champions League.
“I’m very, very proud of my players because I know how hard it is to win here [at Augsburg’s SGL Arena],” said the former Barcelona boss.
Augsburg boss Markus Weinzierl said: “Bayern are in a league of their own, we can all agree on that. They have so much quality, so it’s an absolutely deserved win.”
The team who top the Bundesliga over the winter break are crowned informal autumn champions.
But Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski, 26, said: “The autumn championship means nothing, we have to be first at the end of the season. There are plenty of games still to go.”
Bayern’s closest pursuers are Wolfsburg, who drew 1-1 against SC Padernborn 07 at the weekend. (BBC Sport)
