MUNICH – German champions Bayern Munich have signed goalkeeper Sven Ulreich from Bundesliga rivals VfB Stuttgart, the clubs said on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old has signed a three-year contract with Bayern late on Monday, the club said in a statement.
The transfer fee was not confirmed but is reported as 3.5 million euros.
“We’re very pleased with the signing of Sven Ulreich, an experienced Bundesliga goalkeeper,’’ Bayern deputy chairman Jan-Christian Dreesen told the team homepage.
Ulreich had previously played his whole career with Stuttgart having joined the club aged 10 and progressed through the youth system.
He joins Bayern as a back-up to Germany international keeper Manuel Neuer.
“I was looking for a new challenge after many years with Stuttgart,’’ Ulreich said. “FC Bayern is exactly the right place for me to be.
“I’m really looking forward to the whole team and all the new things I’m set to experience here. I want to make a contribution to our success and will always be there when called upon.’’
Bayern’s current number two, the veteran Spaniard Pepe Reina, is expected to leave before the start of next season.

Stuttgart, who only narrowly avoided relegation last term, are now left without a clear first choice keeper for the new campaign.
Sport director Robin Dutt thanked Ulreich for his years of service and wished him success in the future. (dpa/NAN)
