Nsukka (Enugu State) – Bishop Godfrey Onah of Nsukka Catholic Diocese on Saturday urged 13 newly-ordained priests to be good ambassadors of Jesus Christ where ever they were.
Onah gave the advice at St Theresa Catholic Cathedral, Nsukka in Enugu State while ordaining the priests and urged them to preach the gospel in words and actions.
“God ordained you priests today to help take the gospel to those who have not received the word and to ensure that those who received it remained steadfast in the Lord.
“Preach the gospel to people with both words and actions as you will win more people by what you do.
“Today, you have dedicated your lives to God so you must shun things that are inimical to the gospel,” he said.
He also advised them to pray constantly and put God first in all they did as they could not do it alone unless they allowed God to direct all their affairs.
“In this journey in God’s vineyard, reading the word of God and praying constantly is an indispensible weapon for you to succeed.
“Let the holiness of your life be delightful fragrance to Christ’s faithful, so that by word of example you may build up the house which is God’s church.
“Carry out your duties in God’s vineyard with constant joy and genuine love, attending not to your own concern but to those of Jesus Christ who called you,” he said.
The pretests include Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Nweze, Rev. Fr. Israel Eze, Rev. Fr. Michael Ayogu and Rev. Fr. Azubike Ojobor.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nweze described the day as his happiest day.
“I give God all the thanks and adoration for making me his priest,’’ he said.
On his part, Eze said: “To God be the glory. I will continue to pray for God’s mercy and love as I work in His vineyard.” (NAN)
