Osogbo – Mr Tunde Ajiboye, the National Secretary Special Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), on Tuesday enjoined motorists to be safety conscious during the festive period.
Ajiboye, who gave the advice at an awareness campaign organised by Special Marshals in Osogbo, said that it was imperative for motorists to ensure the safety of lives and property.
The special marshal said that the event was meant to sensitise motorists in Osun including motorcycle riders and pedestrians on the need to be safety conscious during the celebrations.
” Our outing is to caution motorists on the dangers of reckless driving and the need for them to obey road traffic rules and regulations.
“Motorists should drive at normal speed limit and have good tyres to prevent road crashes that might lead to lost of lives and property,” he said.
Ajiboye said that the choice of Olaiya roundabout in Ede was because of the heavy traffic and high rate of accidents being recorded on the roundabout.
Mr Adewale Gabriel, the Osun State FRSC Special Marshal Coordinator, said that the campaign would sensitise motorists on the dangers of reckless driving and failure to obey the traffic regulations.
“I believe that the campaign would definitely help to reduce accidents and also prevent loss of lives and property during this period of celebration.
“The Christmas period normally records heavy vehicular movement with many motorists not obeying the traffic regulations.
“We have come to let them know that safety on our roads is a shared responsibility and that we should all understand how to conduct ourselves during this period.
According to him, accidents do not just happen, they are caused through reckless driving and flagrant disregard for traffic rules and regulations.
