Makurdi – The Benue State University College of Health Sciences, Makurdi, has inducted 31 medical students into the medical profession.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the induction on Wednesday is the fifth to be conducted consecutively since inception of the school.
Addressing the inductees, Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue, represented by the state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. James Ityavyar, advised the graduands to stick to the ethics of the profession no matter the temptation.
Speaking at the induction ceremony, Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Msugh Kembe, said the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) had increased the admission quota of the institution from 50 to 75 students.
Kembe appreciated the efforts of the state government under the leadership of Ortom towards the development of the university.
However, he appealed to the state government to approve funds for the construction of more structures required for some degree programmes set to commence in the college.
Counseling the inductees, the Provost of the college, Prof. Simeon Adebisi, advised the graduands not to temper with the professional ethics of the institution.
He enjoined the inductees to shun sharp practices and abide by the call of selfless services to humanity which is saving of life.
The provost also urged the graduands to help the institution that trained them by bringing up other set of graduates.
Speaking on behalf of fellow inductees, Dr Anebi Joshua, expressed their readiness to serve humanity.
