ABUJA (Sundiata Post) “Congress of Yoruba Sons and Daughters in the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. ”
This is how some illiterates described themselves and issued a statement berating Governor Nyesom Wike for “insulting Yorubas” and also “attacking” former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
These guys are just sick. Simply sick. And I will tell you why.
Where was this ‘group’ when three Yoruba sons were battling for the national championship slot of the PDP? Why didn’t they prevail on them to present a common candidate? The most annoying and irritating outcome of this PDP Convention was the “ethnicisation” of Bode George and Tunde Adeniran’s loss. It is simply irritating. Very irritating.
Let’s talk practical politicking.
Anyone who felt he could have won the PDP chairmanship without the critical support of the governors must be politically naive!
An editor friend of mine “lamented” how the governors have hijacked the party and I said that was normal. And I took him down memory lane.
After five of the six AD governors did not come back in 2003, Tinubu simply supplanted the Afenifere old men who were running the party until then. He became the sole financier of the party and was even “taking care” of his former colleagues who did not win second term. Before you knew it, at least, four of them (Osoba, Adebayo, Akande and Adesina) aligned with him. They became the face of the party and the likes of Baba Adesanya, Ayo Adebanjo, Ayo Opadokun and Baba Fasoranti were relegated. No one was going to Ijebu-Igbo (Adesanya’s country home) to hold AD meetings again.
Tinubu knew (and still knows) the name of the game was money. He deployed it. He almost single-handedly bankrolled the campaigns of Fayemi, Aregbesola and Mimiko. All the three of them eventually became governors.
HOW DO YOU PREVENT SUCH PERSON FROM TAKING OVER THE PARTY AND ASSUMING THE NEBULOUS TITLE OF “NATIONAL LEADER” OF THE PARTY?
Same thing is applicable to PDP. Wike and his colleagues bankrolled the convention and pushed forward Uche Secondus. It would be stupid for you to think they would open their eyes and either Adeniran or George would pick the chairmanship slot.
So let these sense-miss-road Yoruba sons and daughters go home and drink gaari and sugar. It is obvious they are intellectually famished.
Awon on’yeye!
