The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide has issued a stern warning to Simon Ekpa and his Biafra agitators, emphasizing that the Ijaw people are not affiliated with Biafra and firmly reject any such claims.
Responding to an online video by Simon Ekpa asserting Ijaw territories as part of Biafra, the IYC spokesperson, Amb. Binebai Yerin Princewill, clarified the Ijaw stance, stating that they will not tolerate any assertions of their lands being part of Biafra.
Princewill addressed the recent military actions in Ijaw communities, stressing that while condemning the attacks, the Ijaw people have never aligned themselves with Biafra and have distinct struggles for resource control within Nigeria.
Highlighting the historical precedence of the Ijaw struggle predating the Biafra agitation, Princewill underscored the Ijaw’s identity as Nigerians with no ties to Biafra.
While expressing respect for IPOB’s agenda, Princewill emphasized that the Ijaws remain law-abiding citizens within Nigeria and will not entertain any claims of their territories by Biafran groups.
In a final warning, Princewill reiterated that the Ijaws will not permit any assaults on the military in their regions, reaffirming their status as Nigerians in the Niger Delta with no affiliation to Biafra.
