ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The Nigerian Army has increased the tempo of its operations within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in an effort to identifying black spots of the Boko Haram terrorists, following the discovery of their sleeper cells in different parts of the nation’s capital.
The Commander, Guards Brigade, Brig-Gen. Musa Yusuf, gave this assurance in Abuja on Monday at the maiden edition of Inter-unit short talk competition aimed at evaluating and consolidating the intellectual ability of troops of the Guards Brigade.
Yusuf said that the benefits of organising the competition “of this nature as regards to training and proficiency was increasingly obvious, while hoping that the aim of would be achieved at the end of the day.
“We are working in harmony with other security agencies, in the last two to three months, we have been operating jointly with other security agencies, all aimed at ensuring that the FCT remain very safe.
“For this festive period, we have increased the tempo of our activities in terms of patrolling, in terms of raid operation that we carry out in identifying black spot within the FCT, so, we assure the residents of the FCT that we are doing our best and just our best only to make sure the city and environ remains safe,” he assured.
In his remarks, deputy director, Campaign Planning, Defence Headquarters, Brig. Gen K.O Kadiri said training was an important aspect of every army.
He emphasised that the Guards Brigade has been known for its high standard regimentation, professionalism as well as training, stressing that he was delighted that the brigade was making efforts to improve professional standard in order to sustain proficiency.
“Event of this nature intends to evaluate the intellectual ability of the participating units. It would also build the confidence of the troops in the art of public speaking as well as improving Guards Brigade personnel in basic aspects of every day communication,” he noted.

He, however, lamented that it has not been easy for formations in the Nigerian Army to achieve the desired qualitative training and organise capacity building programme of this nature as outlined in the training schedule as a result of increasing demand for security across the country.
He also remarked that reward for constant training is success in operations while urging commanders at all levels and soldiers to train hard and realistically to meet up with the contemporary security challenges.
