ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – The military has warned that the Boko Haram terrorists, in their ever changing tactics to evade security and intelligence agencies, are now planning to use a remote controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to carry out their attacks.
This was disclosed in a statement on Sunday by the Media Coordinator, Operation, Lafiya Dole, Col. Mustapha Anka.
Anka said: “reports had it that terrorists are planning to introduce the use of remote controlled IED that could be concealed in bags of rice, maize and other cereals moved from farms and other warehouses to markets in a neighbouring country.
“The public and most especially transporters, traders and farmers be watchful.”
In the same vein, he said that “as a result of serious exploits recorded, the Theatre command of Operation Lafiya Dole wishes to intimate the public to intensify vigilance especially at places of worship, markets, population centers, motor parks and crowed places”.
According to him, this information is to safeguard lives and property of members of the public, who must be aware of the evolving tactics being adopted by the terrorists.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) had on Saturday, issued similar statement, warning that Boko Haram terrorists have now resorted to disguising as mad persons in order to successfully carry out their suicide bombings.
The Director of Defence Information (DDI), Brig-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, had in a statement, warned members of the public to be ware of the latest strategy being adopted by the terrorists to wreck havoc.
Abubakar said that it has come to the notice of the military authorities that Boko Haram, in their desperation to cause colossal havoc, have now devised a new method where they dress like mad persons to gain unsuspecting access to public areas to detonate bombs.
According to him, the two male suicide bombers, dressed like mad women and carried out suicide bomb attacks in Gombi, Adamawa State, is instructive in this direction.
“Five people lost their lives and several others were wounded in the heinous attack by these ungodly people,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to be wary of mad persons approaching markets, public places or crowded areas so as to nip this ugly trend in the bud.
Abubakar also enjoined Nigerians to be security conscious at all times and should endeavour to report any suspicious person or object to security agencies for prompt action.
