MONTEVIDEO – About 30 people were arrested for violent celebrations after Uruguay beat Italy 1-0 to advance to the Round of 16 at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
According to a media report on Wednesday, violent fans hurled stones and bottles in Montevideo’s city centre after the match played on Tuesday in Brazil.
However, two policemen were injured in the disturbances.
Public institutions, transport services and shops stopped service while the match was on.
The report added that many schools also suspended lessons so that teachers and students could watch the game.
