Abuja (Sundaiata Post) – Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Olu Onagoruwa is dead.
Onagoruwa who has been battling with stroke passed on at the early hours of Friday.
He became the Attorney General and Minister of Justice by the Abacha military junta at a time the country was facing different political problems and sanctions from international community.
His health challenges started after his son was gruesomely murdered by the military
The former Attorney-General made various contributions to the legal profession through his publications.
He was the author of Land & Contemporary Nigeria, Reflections and Civil Liberty In Nigeria:A Focus on The Fundamental Rights of The 1999 Constitution.
Also, his book titled: “Press Freedom in Chain” brought him to national limelight.
Dr. Onagoruwa was awarded the distinguished rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 1993 after many years of quality practice as a lawyer.
He is also well remembered for tremendous work at then Daily Times where he was the Group Legal Adviser/ Company Secretary.
The former Attorney General and Minister of Justice studied law at the University of London where he obtained his LL.B; LL.M and PhD degrees before returning to the country, where he attended the Nigerian Law School.
Onagoruwa, a foremost human rights activist was born in 1936.
