LAGOS – A 27-year-old carpenter, Akinbola Haruna, has appeared before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing an iPad and phones.
The accused, a resident of No. 23, Temidire St., Olodi-Apapa, was docked on Thursday on three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
Haruna pleaded not guilty to the charges.
But the prosecutor, Cpl. John Iberedem, insisted that Haruna with others still at large committed the offences on April 29 at No. 3, Akinbo St., Olodi- Apapa.
According to him, Haruna broke into the house of the complainant, Mr Emmanuel Ide, and stole items valued at N225, 000 including a purse containing N30, 000.
“I bring to the notice of this court that the accused was apprehended the second time he came to raid the same building with his accomplices.’’
The offences, Iberedem noted, contravened Sections 285,305 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three-year imprisonment for stealing, while Section 409 stipulates two years for conspiracy.
Ruling on the bail application of the accused, the Magistrate, Mr G.L. Otepo, granted him bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned till July 2 for trial.(NAN)
