Lagos – A casual worker, who allegedly broke into a company’s warehouse and stole four batteries valued at N144,000, was on Thursday brought before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, Ifeanyi Okito, 30, a resident of Apapa area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
According to the Prosecutor, Insp. Friday Inedu, the accused committed the offences on Jan. 2 at SIFAS Terminal, Apapa, Lagos.
Inedu said the accused conspired with others still at large to break into the company’s warehouse to steal four heavy duty batteries, property of Hebrews Child Nigeria Ltd.
“The accused was caught by security guards who saw him roaming around the warehouse with his accomplices late at night.’’
The offences contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes three years imprisonment for stealing, while Section 409 stipulates two years for conspiracy.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr M.A. Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 28 for mention. (NAN)
