Lagos – The Ikorodu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has appealed to the Lagos State Government to upgrade the Odogunyan Industrial Estate for improved economic activities.
The Director-General of the chamber, Mr Tope Oluwaleye, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.
He said the poor state of facilities at the estate had hindered industrial activities and growth.
“For example, the road to the estate is in deplorable state.
“There is no water supply to the estate, while power supply to the estate is being diverted by other bigger estates in the vicinity.
“The Odogunyan Industrial Estate is for small and medium entrepreneurs, but there are other bigger estates within which have hijacked most of the amenities.
“The government should come to the aid of the operators in the estate.
“The industrial estate is about the biggest in West Africa. We have a lot of industries and entrepreneurs who migrated from Ikeja to the estate, but conducting businesses there has been challenging.
“If the roads to the estate and all other factors are kept in good condition, jobs and production will increase,” said Oluwaleye.
Oluwaleye commended the state government for its proposed construction of the 4th Mainland Bridge and the planned conversion of the Ikorodu/Agbowa road to eight lane.
“This project will definitely boost commerce in Ikorodu and impact positively on the economic growth of the state.”
NAN recalls that Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode ,on April 14, said that the government would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with investors for the construction of the proposed 4th Mainland Bridge before May 29.
The construction of the bridge, which will take off from Ajah through Langbasa to Ikorodu will cost about N240 billion.
Ambode also said that the eight-lane Ikorodu to Agbowa road would be built under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) programme to fast-track economic development in the area. (NAN)
