Half of a Yellow Sun  has taken it place as one of the movies that has generated the highest revenue in the industry, grossing over N280 million.

According to reports, the  worldwide release of ,the screen adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s novel, Half of a Yellow Sun has so far generated about N280,000,000 from cinema release, TV sales rights, online viewing, and in-flight viewing.

Nigerian Censors Board had suspended the release of the movie in April, insisting that some aspects of the movie could incite religious unrest.

The suspension generated a lot of public debate, meetings, intrigues and public outcry which attracted international attention.. finally the movie after months of debate made sense to the  Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) , who few weeks ago approved and classified the flick.

The movie which had been released in the UK, USA, Australia and New Zealand had so far generated over N280 million.

The amount according to a source close to the producer, was made from cinema release, sales for In-flight Rights, sales for Television Rights and Online Viewing, totalling One million Pounds.

The movie will be released across 17 Nigerian cinemas on Friday, August 1.
