ABEOKUTA (Sundiata Post) – in other to improve on her efforts on effective monitoring of government assets and critical infrastructure across Ogun state, the Nigeria Security and civil defence Corps (NSCDC) Ogun state Command will begin familiarization tour to communities where gas pipelines are located in Ogun state.
The Corps Public Relations Officer of Ogun State Command, CSC Kareem Olanrewaju made this known in Abeokuta, the Ogun state Capital in a release made available to news men in Abeokuta on Sunday.
According to him, the Corps Commandant, Aboluwoye Akinwande would soon begin tour of towns and communities where pipeline and other facilities belonging to government are located. This is to begin a new move aimed at designing a blanket security coverage for the areas concerned.
The move will help to identify security lapses, sensitise people living in those communities about the advantages of observing what goes on in their environment, adding that, the incident of last Tuesday couldn’t have happened had there been good relationship between the host communities and security agencies as well as company in charge of of the facility in question.
Kareem said the Corps could not be effective without the cooperation of communities hosting these government facilities. He said, NSCDC will create a hot line which could be called in case they observe any suspicious movement around their areas. It would be helpful and a wise security decision for maintenance workers to inform the locals of their presence before beginning any repair work. The villagers would get to us and we will be able to confirm their identity.
Apart from this, the Command would consider possibility of establishing NSCDC Posts close to some of this areas so as to reduce our response time. Already, Commandant Aboluwoye has instructed Divisional Officers in all the areas prone to attack to make necessary deployment accordingly.
The Corps Commandant explained further that, the Command will open a direct line of communication with all Area Commands and Divisions which fall within the area of operations to allow for uninterrupted link and efficiency.
