The CJN, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has called upon the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and the Chief Judge of Kano State High Court to address conflicting interim injunctions concerning the Kano Emirate, stirring uncertainty within the state.
Justice S. A. Amobeda of the Federal High Court in Kano issued an eviction order against Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II from the Kofar Kudu Palace, affirming the authority of Emir Aminu Ado Bayero. The order also safeguards Emir Aminu Bayero’s rights and privileges.
Conversely, Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu of the Kano State High Court granted an injunction to shield Muhammadu Sanusi and other key figures from potential harassment, preserving the Emir’s autonomy and key symbols of authority.
The conflicting orders have generated confusion over the rightful authority and protection of emirs in Kano. The State High Court’s case is scheduled for further hearing on June 13, while the Federal High Court has postponed its case to June 4.
