Umuahia – Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji ,the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Umuahia ,on Sunday called on Nigerians to desist from acts that would breed disunity in the country.
Ugorji made the call in his sermon during a Thanksgiving service organised in commemoration of the 2017 Abia Day celebration in Mater Dei Catholic Church,Umuahia.
He said that unity was an essential component in the growth of any nation and called for tolerance as well as harmony among Nigerians.
Ugorji called on the Federal Government and State Governments to formulate policies that would centre on meeting the aspirations of the people.
The cleric decried the recent killings in Ozubulu and demolition of Eke-Ukwu market in Owerri which resulted in so many casualties and called on the relevant agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.
He called on the people of Abia to support the efforts of the State Government by making positive contributions that would yield growth and development in the state.
“As we celebrate our 26th anniversary, I pray that God will bless our state with peace, security and stability.
“Abia is endowed with natural resources, I pray that God will bless the governor with wisdom to build Abia into a great state,’’ he said.
Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, prayed for divine grace and wisdom to make the state great economically.
Ikpeazu expressed gratitude to God’s preservation over the state in 26 years and also prayed for divine blessings for the people of the state.
