Lagos – A clerk, Ayokunle Oluyori, who allegedly stole N513,488 from her employer, Berry Mart Integrated Services Ltd, was on Monday docked at a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Oluyori, 38,whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of stealing.
Prosecutor Christopher Okoliko told the court that the accused committed the offence at No. 1, Bode Thomas St., Surulere, Lagos, between August and December 2016.
Okoliko said the theft was discovered during an annual audit of the company’s books.
“But when the accused was asked to defend himself, he could not give a satisfactory explanation about the missing money.”
The offence contravened Sections 285(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011 which prescribes a seven-year jail term for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. M.I Dan-Oni, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Dan-Oni said the surety must be gainfully employed and should reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
She said the surety must provide evidence of tax payment to the government as part of the bail condition.
The magistrate adjourned the case to Jan. 27 for mention.
