ABUJA – The Director-General, Centre for Management Development, Dr Kabir Usman, on Tuesday said the centre trained 4,160 managers in public and private sectors between January, 2014 and October, 2014.
Kabir, who made this known in a news conference in Abuja, said that the centre trained 350 federal civil servants and 2,800 other civil servants from Gombe and Ogun.
He said that other managers trained during the period were drawn from the private sector.
He said that Gombe and Ogun workers were trained in big numbers because a needs assessment survey conducted by the centre revealed capacity gaps in both states.
According to him, owing to this development, the centre developed curriculum to bridge the identified gaps.
Kabir said the centre also conducted promotion examinations for over 1,600 civil servants from the National Assembly Service Commission.
He said that the number of people trained by the centre increased following its partnership with state and federal governments agencies.
He expressed optimism that such partnership would go a long way in creating synergy and move the nation’s development agenda forward.
He also said researches by the centre indicated that over 70 per cent of small-scale business owners were not equipped with leadership, managerial or administrative skills.
According to him, this makes it difficult for them to competently manage their businesses.
The director-general said that the 400 Management Development Institutes (MDI) and 1,448 management consultants were accredited by the centre across the country.
“One of the core functions of the Centre is to ensure that only certified management trainers and institutions operate in the field,’’ he said. (NAN)
