Enugwu – Ukwu (Anambra) Oct.17, 2018 (NAN) Chief Boniface Nkwuaku, President-General of Enugwu-Ukwu Town Union in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra has expressed satisfaction with the large turnout of people for collection of their Permanent Voter Cards.
Nkwuaku, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugwu-Ukwu community on Wednesday said that he was happy at the impressive turnout by its community in collecting their PVCs.
He said that the distribution of the PVCs in the community by INEC officials between Oct. 12 and Oct. 15 witnessed impressive turnout.
Nkwuaku said that he was glad that the people were now showing more participation in political affairs and becoming politically active.
“Casting votes is a civic responsibility of every adult so people coming out in their numbers shows that they are politically in tune and desirous to have a say in matters affecting them,’’ he said.
He called on those who for want of time did not meet up with the two days given to the community for the distribution to visit the INEC office in its council area headquarter in Abagana for collection of their PVCs.
He said that over 500 PVCs was collected during the two days exercise and commended the leadership of the town union who engaged in massive sensitisation for the successful exercise.
Nkwuaku said that the exercise would be rounded up on Oct. 19 and urged those yet to collect to do so immediately
NAN in telephone interview with the Public Relations officer of INEC, Mr Leo Nkedife reports that the voter card distribution commenced on Oct. 8 and would be completed by Oct. 19.
Nkedife said that the PVCs were being given to persons who registered in its offices across the state and would commence its second stage by Nov. 6 to Nov. 12 in polling units.
He said after the November exercise, registrants would be expected to go to INEC office to collect their PVCs till Feb. 8 2019.
Nkedife said that impressive turnout had been recorded and hoped that at the second round of the distribution that larger number, if not all cards, would be distributed.
He commended the community leaders for partnering with INEC in ensuring that their subjects come out for the exercise. (NAN)
