Lagos – Lagos State Government said it provided 48 patrol vans, 385 walkie-talkie, 11 base and repeater stations and 1, 150 uniforms to Neighbourhood Watch to enhance security in the state.
Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State made this known on Thursday while speaking at the grand finale of the 2015 community day celebration in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ceremony has as its theme: “Community Development: Tools for Development.’’
It was organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs to mark this year’s World Community Day.
“We are also working with the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to ensure our state is safe and secured for residents and investors.
“We are totally committed to the implementation of community policing with the active involvement of our people.
“We recently acquired 26 Transport Ambulances and 20 Mobile Care Units for that purpose,’’ Ambode said.
The governor commended the efforts of the Community Development Associations (CDAs) for various self-help projects that had been initiated and implemented to complement government efforts in the local communities.

He said that his government was committed to community development and would focus on strengthening communities by initiating “bottom to top approach of governance.”
Ambode said that his administration had made the communities an integral part of the decision making process and has given them the opportunity to decide what they want from government.
NAN reports that CDAs at Unilag Estate Magodo, Oke Baale and Agodo Alara, were awarded with a brand new buses for well executed self-help projects.
Earlier, in his address of welcome, Mr Muslim Folami, the Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, said that the event was to mark another determined effort of government to continuously uplift the grassroots.
Folami commended CDAs, LCDAs for their partnership with state government through their various self-help projects aimed at improving communities. (NAN)
