ABUJA, (Sundiata Post) – Average price of 12.5kg cooking gas rose by 49.82 per cent from between December 2016 and January 2017, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Wednesday.
According to the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) Price Watch report, average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for Cooking Gas increased to N5,508.16 in January 2017 from N4,071.63 in December 2016.
However, on a year-on-year basis, it increased by 35.28 per cent.
According to the report, States with the highest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder for Cooking Gas) were Borno at N5,950.00, Delta at N5,933.33 and Katsina at N5,972.22 while States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 12.5kg cylinder of Cooking Gas were Benue at N5,083.33, Ogun N5,030 and Kaduna & Kogi at N5,000.
However, the 5kg gas cylinder recorded lower level of increase as the average price for the refilling it rose by 28.24 per cent year-on-year and 39.39 per cent month-on-month to N2,567.56 in January 2017 from N2,002.16 in December 2016.
States with the highest average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder were Abuja at N2,800, Kano at N2,750 and Oyo 2,700, while States with the lowest average price for the refilling of a 5kg cylinder were Borno at N2,511.11, Akwa Ibom at N2,520 and Bauchi, Benue, Edo, Ekiti, Gombe, Jigawa, Osun, Yobe and Zamfara at N2,500.
