IKOM – Some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on Monday donated 20 sets of 3-seater desks, 10 plastic chairs and 20 packets of chalk to Community Secondary School Ikom, Cross River.
The corps members known as, “Gender Vanguard,” made the donation as part of their Community Development Service (CDS) in Ikom.
The President of the group, Mr Kenneth Asu, said that the donation was part of their community service towards the development of education in the state.
Asu said that the donation was made to assist some of the students that were sitting on the floor while attending classes.
“This donation is aimed at promoting educational advancement in the state and the nation.
“Gender Vanguard Group is also committed to the development of the girl-child education in our society“, he said.
Another member of the group, Ms Amarachi Nwafor, said that the objective of the group was to promote girl-child education in the society.
Nwafor, who commended the good working relationship between the school management and the corps members, said it was necessary for the students to be comfortable while attending classes.
Mrs Justina Arop, an NYSC official, who witnessed the donation, commended the corps members for their selfless service and passion towards their host community.
Receiving the items, Principal of the school, Mrs Regina Akpet, thanked the group for their contribution towards the educational development of the state.
Akpet, who described the donation as a timely and humanitarian service, said it wa good that in spite of their meagre allowances, they were able to donate such facilities to the school. (NAN)
