Lagos – The Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State on Friday urged residents to enroll for the ongoing adult literacy programme organised by the council.
Mr Olufemi Ojikutu, the council’s Head of Department, Education and Library Services, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Ojikutu who said that the programme was relatively free, said it was mandatory for the LCDA to run mass literacy programme.
According to him, the major challenge of the programme was poor enrollment, as most adults were not taking advantage of the programme.
Ojikutu said whoever missed the opportunity of having primary education was eligible for the programme.
He said the council had six centres spread across the area, adding that each centre has a student population of about 50 students.
“The candidates are at liberty to choose any centre close to them and can also switch between the centres at anytime for their convenience,’’ he said.
Ojikutu said the adult literacy programme was an internationally recognised programme. (NAN)
