Ile-Ife (Osun) – An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Wednesday sentenced a 32-year-old man, Micheal Duru, to six years’ imprisonment.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode gave the sentence after Duru had pleaded guilty to stealing a Toyota Camry car and other goods worth N3.8 million.
Ijiyode did not give Duru an option of fine having identified him as an ex-convict.
The court also recalled that Duru was sentenced to two years imprisonment in 2015 over N250, 000 fraud.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 4, 2018 at 11:30 am at All Souls’ Chapel Church, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi alleged that the accused was caught after he had stolen a Toyota Muzzle Camry car valued at N3.8 million.
The prosecutor said that Duru also stole one Samsung mobile phone valued at N26, 000.
He put the total value of goods stolen by Duru at N3.826 million, property of Dr. Abraham Babatope.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 383, 390 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
