Abuja, – A Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja, on Tuesday remanded a 33-year-old man, Oto Obong in a correctional centre for allegedly beating up a woman and causing her grievous harm.
The police charged Obong of Mpape Quarters, Abuja, with assault and causing hurt.
The Judge, Mr Umar Mayana, deferred bail for the defendant and adjourned the case until Feb. 6 for mention.
Mayana ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Correctional Centre in Keffi, Abuja.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Ade Adeyanju, told the court that the matter was reported at Maitama Police division by a team of policemen on patrol.
Adeyanju said that the defendant was allegedly sighted beating one Elizabeth Aguru of Wuse II at Ademola Adetokunmbo Crescent, where he inflicted bodily injury on her hand, chest.
He said that in the process of the beating, Aguru allegedly lost N7,000 and an artificial hair cap, valued at N35,000.
Adeyanju said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 265 and 244 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. (NAN)
