In a recent development, a Federal High Court, under the jurisdiction of Justice Liman, issued an ex-parte order prohibiting the Kano State Government from reinstating Khalifa Muhammadu Sanusi II as Emir of Kano.
The order, granted on the night of Thursday, May 23, 2024, came in response to a case filed by a traditional title holder, Sarkin Dawaki Babba, Aminu Babba-Dan’Agundi, as reported by DAILY NIGERIAN.
According to the online paper, the judge permitted the Plaintiff/Applicant to serve their Concurrent Originating Motion and other court processes on the 6th Defendant (IGP) in FCT Abuja, outside the jurisdiction of the Honourable Court.
The judge’s ruling emphasized maintaining the status quo ante regarding the passage and assent of the bill, pending the hearing of the Fundamental Rights application on June 3, 2024. Additionally, an Interim Injunction was granted to prevent the enforcement, execution, implementation, and operationalization of the Kano State Emirate Law Council (Repeal) Law.
To ensure peace and security within the state, parties were directed to adhere to the court’s orders until the hearing of the Fundamental Rights application. The case has been adjourned to June 3, 2024, for further proceedings.
