OTUKPO – Captain of the National Female Cricket team, Azuka Onwujiobi, has called on females to embrace the game.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Oturpko, Benue,Onwujiobi, the coach observed that cricket was becoming popular among men, but decried the level of participation among females.
She described cricket as an interesting and most disciplined of all sports, adding that it was also a gentleman’s game.
The player lauded the efforts of the Nigerian Cricket Federation towards making the sports popular in the country.
Onwujiobi promised to ensure that her posting to Anambra as coach, would lead to the development of the sport in the state and the entire South East.
According to her, cricket is a good sport that creates employment opportunities for young ladies, and therefore called for adequate funding of the game. (NAN)
