Calabar – The Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) says it has distributed chairs, registers, dairies, sports equipment and chalks to primary schools in the state.
The Chairman of the board, Dr Stephen Odey, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar on Sunday that the distribution of the items was to enhance teaching and learning in primary schools in the state.
“Last year, we distributed over 75,000 plastic chairs and we are still expecting more. We also distributed text books and black boards, among other items.
“We have now given out 1,820 cartons of chalk and 18,000 diaries and registers. The Education Secretaries from the 18 Local Government councils have started collecting these items.
“This shows how serious we are in returning the past glory of our primary school system,” he said.
Odey stressed the need for the education secretaries to ensure that the items were used for teaching and learning in the schools.
“They are to monitor the use of all the items in the schools under them and ensure optimal use of these materials in the overall interest of the children,” he said.
The chairman disclosed that the board would also provide motorcycles for the 18 education secretaries for the supervision of the schools under them.
