Minna – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS)in Niger, Kogi and Kwara Area Command, says it has embarked on aggressive sensitisation to fight smuggling in its area of jurisdiction.
The command’s Comptroller, Mr Benjamin Binga, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Monday.
He said that the sensitisation would enable border communities to offer intelligence information that would assist the field officers to apprehend those involved in the illegal businesses.
‘‘We have issued an effective operational order to our officers on how to ensure the arrest and prosecution of smugglers.
‘‘We have since embarked on aggressive sensitisation to the negative effects of smuggling on our economy for them to see reason why we are fighting smugglers.
“We will ensure zero tolerance for any form of prohibited items, as our well-trained personnel are ever ready to meet them on the battle field,’’ he said.
He also urged traditional rulers and stakeholders to mobilise people to assist in preventing smuggling in the area. (NAN)
