A tragic incident unfolded along the Katsina-Dankama road in Kaita Local Government Area as passengers of a truck reportedly clashed with customs officers, resulting in the death of a customs officer and one of the passengers.
According to sources, the confrontation occurred on Wednesday morning at Gamjin Makaho village when customs officials attempted to stop the truck, which was transporting passengers to Dankama town. Despite the officers’ attempts, the driver refused to halt the vehicle.
In the ensuing chaos, a customs officer allegedly fired a shot that struck one of the passengers in the waist. Subsequently, the passengers disembarked and confronted the customs officers, leading to a violent altercation during which one customs officer lost his life. The deceased officer’s identity and rank remain undisclosed at this time.
Tragically, one of the passengers, identified as Bashir Na-Buzuwa, succumbed to his injuries sustained from the gunshot wound. Na-Buzuwa, a 27-year-old resident of Zanguna in Katsina city and native of Doro town in Bindawa LGA, lost his life in the altercation.
When reached for comment, Customs Public Relations Officer SC Tahir Balarabe stated that the service would release an official statement on the incident and that efforts were underway to recover the remains of their fallen colleague.
