OWERRI – The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone C of Nigeria Customs Service, Owerri, on Friday destroyed 1, 500 cartons of frozen poultry products with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N16.2 million.
The zone also confiscated 454 bales of second Hand clothing valued at N43.5 million and vehicles and arrested suspected smugglers.
The Area Controller of Customs, Mr Victor Dimka, made the facts known to newsmen at its Owerri/Abia Command office.
Dimka said the poultry products were destroyed because of the health hazards they posed to Nigerians.
Dimka warned smugglers to desist from such criminal acts.

“It is very sad that in spite of the warnings and constant seizures made by the Nigeria Customs people still engage in illegal businesses knowing the full consequences if caught.
“It is worth repeating that the Nigeria customs of today is well equipped, trained, motivated.
“We are saying that enough is enough for smugglers in the zone because we will stop at nothing to see that they are brought to their knees,” he said. (NAN)
