Abuja- – The Minister of Interior, retired Lt.- Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, has called on religious leaders to join the Federal Government in promoting peace in the country.
Dambazau made the call on Friday in Abuja at a special Juma’at service to commemorate the 14th anniversary of Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society of Nigeria.
The minister commended the Islamic organisation for its efforts at promoting unity and peace in the country and urged other religious organisations to emulate them.
He called on well meaning Nigerians to contribute to the building of the new Al-Habibiyyah Mosque so as to further create avenue for the promotion of peace in the country.
He assured that the Federal Government would continue to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure unity, peace and stability of the country.
Earlier, the Chief Imam of Al-Habibiyyah Mosque, Ustaz Adeyemi Fuad, in his sermon, stressed the need for Muslims to work for the peace and unity of the country.
He said that the organisation had been at the forefront of promoting peace and empowering the less privileged through its Zakat and Food Bank programmes.
Fuad called on Muslims and well meaning Nigerians to contribute positively toward the development of its Mosque located at Guzape, Abuja.
He said that the Mosque which was still at the foundation level, would when completed, accommodate over 2,000 worshipers apart from other facilities.
