ABUJA (Sundiata Post) You are forced to wonder when we’ll ever begin to do things with clarity in Nigeria. The AGF has now explained that the announcement on a new Democracy Day was an expression of desire which would only materialise when the NASS amends the relevant act. But the announcement from the presidency didn’t say that. It made a definite proclamation that the date for Democracy Day has been changed henceforth. Why didn’t the AGF’s opinion go into the presidential announcement?
Another question that easily springs up is that if the change in Democracy Day rests with an amendment by the NASS, why was there not a member’s bill asking for the amendment all these years? How come everyone was condemning past leaders since 1999 for not designating June 12 as Democracy Day when any member of the NASS who supported the idea could’ve sponsored a bill to effect the amendment? Is it that there is a general ignorance of the law by government, NASS and the general public?
