Kano -The Kano State Government on Friday said it approved N15 million for the establishment of an eight-kilometre shelter belt for preserving the forest reserves in Danbatta and Bichi Local Government Areas.
The state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Muhammad Garba, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting.
The commissioner said the shelter belt would check desertification in desert-prone areas in the state.
The council, he said, also approved N35 million for the transformation of the Audu Bako Secretariat Complex into a green area.

The council, he added, also approved N2.2 billion for the execution of the 2015 constituency projects across the 44 local government areas of the state.
“The council approved N49 million for the rehabilitation of Bagauda dam in the state.
‘’The executive council also agreed to release the sum of N29 million for the procurement of 600 petrol engine water pump for sale at subsidised rate to farmer groups across the 44 local governments of the state,’’ he said.
He stressed the government’s determination to develop infrastructure in the state as part of the initiatives to improve the welfare of the people. (NAN)
