DJ Switch, also known as Obianuju Catherine Udeh, has dismissed reports of her arrest in Lagos for a traffic offense. Widely recognized for her livestream of the aftermath of the October 2020 protests against police brutality, where she documented the events following the Lekki massacre, DJ Switch took to Twitter to refute the negative coverage.
In her tweet, she expressed dismay at waking up to the news of her alleged arrest and clarified that she does not condone violence against the police. She criticized bloggers for spreading false information without verifying the facts, emphasizing the dangers of such reporting on public perception.
DJ Switch asserted that the misinformation amounted to defamation of her character and demanded that the bloggers retract the false news within 24 hours. Furthermore, she emphasized her disdain for seeking cheap publicity and stated her reluctance to pursue legal action despite being advised to do so.
In a subsequent update, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified that the individual arrested was DJ Commissioner Wysei, not DJ Switch, apologizing for the confusion caused to media outlets that had earlier reported on DJ Switch’s arrest.
