Vegetarianos of Equatorial Guinea would fall when both sides clash in Port Harcourt in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Leones Vegetarianos of Equatorial Guinea on Saturday defeated Dolphins of Port Harcourt, Nigeria’s second representatives in the competition 1-0 in the preliminary round first leg tie in Malabo.
The hurriedly prepared Port Harcourt side had to fend off their shabby preparation for the away tie which saw them leaving for Malabo by 8p.m. on Friday barely 24 hours to kick off.
However, against all odds, Dolphins competition started the better of the two teams but lost concentration in the crucial moments and crashed by a lone goal to the Equatorial Guinean in Malabo.
Dolphins did create some goal scoring chances of their own in the tension soaked match but were unable to convert their chances.
Rotimi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that 2014 Federation Cup finalist were unlucky to have lost by a lone goal to their opponents.
According to him, “I believe that the Port Harcourt based team will get the needed result in the second leg.’’
The former Super Eagles Goalkeeper said that he and his team mates were focused on the getting the result in Port Harcourt on March 1.
“We really outplayed our host in the first half. We missed a couple of chances to score but it’s more painful that we conceded a goal late in the match.
“We blew off the opportunity to at least get a draw in the final moment due to loss of concentration.
“However, we still have a chance to get things right in the second leg and I’m optimistic that we shall get the right result that will see us through to the next round.
“Though we weren’t happy with the result but we’ve put that experience behind us.
“We shall get back to business as we prepare for the return leg,” Rotimi said.
NAN reports that Dolphins FC will host Leones Vegetarianos of Equatorial Guinea in Port Harcourt on March 1 with a task of overturning the 0-1 deficit.
Stanley Eguma’s sides desperately need to win to ensure that they do not kiss the competition goodbye at the early stages.
Dolphins must score at least two goals to advance in order to qualify for the first round at the expense of their Equatorial Guinean opposition to confirm their date with Tunisian Foes, Club Africain waiting in the wing. (NAN)
