Abuja – Dr Olusegun Peters, the National Chairman, Democratic People’s Congress (DPC) has said that the party will build a serious political system in the country.
Peters made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
According to him, the party will defend its participation in every election in the country and will also defend the people’s rights in every way possible.
“Our agenda in DPC is to build a serious political system in Nigeria, participate in every election in this country, to try and defend people’s rights.’’
He promised to contribute to the betterment of the lives of the citizens in every sphere of life.
“As a newly registered party, we have a lot of work to do to get the party’s structure on ground in every state, especially the two states that will be having their elections soon.
“These are Kogi and Bayelsa states; we are seriously working to ensure that those vying for the seat have serious ambition to run for the election in those states.
“We have some interests already from these states and the party is still talking with them. We believe that any moment from now, activities in the states will start in earnest.
Peters said that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the DPC is working hard to see that there are fully operational offices in the Bayelsa and Kogi.

He said that this was necessary as the party was preparing to take part in the governorship polls in November and December in the two states.
He said that Alhaji Yusuf Nagari, the Acting Chairman of Kogi chapter of the party had been given directive to set the machinery in motion to actualise the decision of the party.
Peters said that with the operational offices in these states, the party would be able to meet the aspirations of the people.
“This is necessary because as you are aware these two states are preparing for its governorship elections coming up soon and we will want the full participation of our great party in the polls.’’
According to the National Chairman, persons from these states have started showing interest to contest for the governorship election coming up soon.
“The National Publicity Secretary of the Bayelsa chapter has also given us the situation reports at the meeting on members intending to take part in the polls.’’
Peters said that the intending members would be introduced to the members when all the formal registrations would have been done and urged members to do their best to keep the party flag high.
He added that for the party to emerge victorious in the coming state elections, it must present credible candidates.
The chairman said that Kogi and Bayelsa would be used to set the party going as a credible platform for elections.
He said that party funds would be generated by the NWC from members of DPC for the main time. (NAN)
